Hermione Beach Hut recently featured on the BBC’s Interior Design Masters. As part of the competition, the designers were given a beach hut each to completely overhaul in just three days. We gave Hermione’s designer, Lynsey Ford who was an architect by trade, the brief of Ice Cream Shades and my goodness did she deliver!

Lynsey’s thoughtful detailing and endless practical solutions blew us away because it’s the details and practicality which will improve the customer experience and keep you lovely lot coming back year-on-year. Lynsey considered our customers with every detail.

Not only is Lynsey’s design practical but it is also beautiful. Mirror tiles are interwoven with the pastel tile scheme so that you can see the sea even when you are facing away from it. Imagine washing up and noticing a passing sailboat!

The black and white lino floor is super easy to sweep sand from and the monochrome pattern is carried on through the design, tying the scheme together and adding a modern twist to the classic theme, preventing it from becoming sickly sweet.

The peg wall is so versatile for storage, hanging anything from deckchairs to drying cossies. Lynsey even made bodyboard bags so that boards can easily be hung from the hooks. She also created a changing area because what teenager wants to get changed in front of their family?

The seating is all on wheels and moveable, so you can use it in indoors with the fold down table/shelving unit, or outdoors for eating alfresco.

Hermione’s exterior wasn’t shown at all in the programme which was a shame because Lynsey had put a beautiful handmade awning on the front of the hut. It can be pulled out in hot weather to add extra shade. It will be invaluable to larger groups in the height of summer. The exterior was finished with a cherry on top and why not? The brief had been ice cream shades after all and beach huts are made for summer fun.

Beach hut week was a test of designers ingenuity. It was the week when Lynsey’s aptitude for designing clever solutions really started to shine, and it was no surprise to us when she went on to win the whole darn competition.

Lynsey Ford can now be found beavering away at her prize, the commission of a Lake District hotel interior and looking after her beautiful newborn (busy lady). We are sure Lynsey is destined to be a household name of interior design but for now, Hermione remains a very rare, very sought after limited edition.
